Glad to see you've spent the money Theres nothing worse than cheap bikes. I had an Apollo from my mate. It was shite, the bearings collapsed after 3 months.

I spent £300 on a Mongoose Tyax Elite at christmas, still rides like brand new.

im lookin to get a new bike, what are the best makes/models etc out there now, also not goin above about 800k, second hand wud be fine also etc

Don't get full suspension or anything with disk brakes. Most of the stuff these days is cheap junk...

£800 will get you a shit hot 2nd hand cross country/hard tail. I paid £300 for a 2nd hand (used twice! and cost £600 new) '06 Kona Cindercone with Hayes hydralic discs, Marzocchi forks etc. Depends what you want, I wanted to do light xc off road and riding down sea front/to my Dad's etc so this is fine.

Alex - do an ebay search for kona Cindercone, Explosif, Kula etc - all good bikes.

i'm looking for a 2nd hand bike to use to get to football on and the odd trip to the shops. Anyone got one going? Needs to be reliable and withstand a fair amount of punishment
