Going for my first proper full time job interview today for Web Design!  am abit nervious tbh.. gotta take examples of stuff and do a small coding test as its hand coded.. Not that i have a problem with that as its how I do stuff, but Ive got a piss poor memory at the best of times

Yeah its really easy stuff, just html, css and using photoshop well, all which I can do but I just dont want my brain to lock up
Gonna do abit of practise in a minute..
Does anyone have any pre interview food which they recommened?

And something that will release energy through the day slowly, complex crbs, e.g long grain brown rice.

Excellent well done.
Don't know if you're aware but in my day job I teach web design in a college, I would be interested to see what quals you have and also what they were looking for in the person spec, just to get an idea of what positions are out there to tell my students.
We've historically had trouble with experience not being as relevant as the companies would like, ie. technically and graphically good but people were getting knocked back as it wasn't true b2b type of stuff, ie. personal projects rather than sites with a commercial value.

Sure Ian,
Ive just finished college this year, my course was a BTEC National Diploma in Multimedia Design.
Thoughout the course we used photoshop quite extensively and even though I had used it before I learnt a great deal during my time there, even people who had never touched it gained some impressive skills too.
The company I applied to were more interested in my CSS and HTML coding skills, so coding it on the fly by hand, with out using a GUI, and photoshop skills also.
They dispise dreamweaver, hehe. They were definatly interested in knowing that I could code out of my head by hand into html and CSS, with some creative flaire to acompany it through photoshop.
Myself and a friend have been quite fortunate to come straight out of college and be given this opertunity, as far as im aware all the other people there are Uni grads.
My course definatly improved my photoshopping skills but id say my coding skills were extra ciriculum activities rather than what I picked up college as we were directed towards dreamweaver and such.
They were also interested in flash skills, not using much actionscript but actually being aware of it and being able to try things to learn it and put it into practise.

I have one basic one, and another more complex one which is still being set up, it has a tempory design on it for now as im redesigning it, need to go get photographs for it tomoro

Starting salary is £12k Think it can increase to around 16k for what we're doing depending on the skills and work we have / do. But not bad for someone who's just finished college

The salary is good enough straight out of college, a few of my students went for posts 15/16k but were unsuccessful because of the lack of commercial experience.

Hmmm, not sure about that mate.
The bottom line is that companies take people on like Drax.....pay them peanuts (12k) whilst their supervisor (on 30k+) takes all the credit.
And the fee income to boot.

Yeah but those type of posts give you the commercial experience to move on to 15/16k in a few years.
A lot of people I know who have gone in to IT at that level have to move around a lot before they start asking the decent money. The good news is that after they have moved a few times, they start to do OK. Its not the best thing for ready money, but its also preferable to a degree course which everything else being equal you're three years worth of salary down, and thats if you don't rack up debt as well.
College student could maybe be what - 40/50k better off than graduate of the same age three years from now?

Not sure where you are coming from there Ian.
But I'm 100% certain that I would take on a lesser qualified BTEC candidate as opposed to a 'know it all' graduate'
