Hi, iv just been looking at a 15" Kicker L7 sub. It has an RMS power of 1000watts.

What i dont understand is the difference between RMS and maximum power? Also what sort of power of an amp would i need?

Thanks SRi_Si

Dont know the ins and outs but RMS is the actual power and u need an AMP with at least the same power capabilities, otherwise theres no point in having a powerfull sub.

So basically the sub will wound best at 1000watts? Instead of saying blasting 1300watts through it and it being distorted? So would it be safe to get a say 1500watts amp?

U can get a more powerfull amp, and just dont use the amp to its full potential.

This AMP would be nice with it

Kickers are good makes, i used to Run 2x12" kickers, i dont know much about there new stuff though, u just gotta make sure u got an amp powerfull enough, otherwise theres no point in having a decent sub, its better top have more power and turn the power on the amp down than not enough power.

Are mutant a decent make for an amp? Are good quality amps a must or is it really just speakers?

mutant are utter carp in the same class a splx steer clear of motor world as there stuff is well over priced

kicker is ok for budged stuff if i was spending that sort of money i would go for a 12" RE or DD the alpine type r subs are worth a look at too

if you intrested in street bass/spl have a chat with the guys on the talk audio forums http://www.talkaudio.co.uk

kicker isnt great for that kind of money, to be honest flash22 has covered exactly what i would have said - RE or DD for that money, although you could get pretty loud with 4 pioneer 3004's in the right box/wall for that money (not including amps)

talkaudio is one of the most helpfull forums ive used for car audio
