Jet skis to me were a very short lived buzz.
Three or four times out and boredom set in....that and you can't ride them to a lake

Used to do it properly (jetskiing), had our own club etc. Done it for 6-7 years. Herne Bay Jetski club. Many people still go down there.
Totally different. The Jetski is the cheaper option though. Looking at about £40-£80 for a full days use of juice plus oil. They need to be maintained every time you use them (cleaned, engine rinsed etc). They don't suffer with many engine issues, ropes getting caught on teh impellor is the worst, or the engine flooding. (plug out, WD40 in, turn it over with thumb over top).
Engine tuning wise, you can make them PLENTY quick enough (if we're talking stand up, sit downs are for pussies and lazy boys ). Enoguh to feel like its ripping your arms out.
Issues: Becoming rarer to find an official place to let you do it.
Can cause serious back problems later unless you train a lot (gym to keep your lower back strong). You can do so many tricks, its great fun..
Or the car...
More expensive to buy, more expensive to do. ITs damn good fun, but you can only go round set circuits where-as the jetski you can go anywhere.
TBH, i LOVE track days, they are the best, but given the choice, i'd go for the jetski.
Yamaha 701 superjet, dribble. I think Kawasaki are now up to 800cc on their stand ups, but the ski is much heavier than the Yamaha.

No you dont? You just need to find an area of water that the local coastguard/water safty committe allows you to jetski on. Many places it banned because of the noise...

jet ski
my mate's dad has got a caravan on anglesey where he keeps his boat and jetskis, there great fun, i think hes shelled out 40k on a new boat this year
wheni go we normally launch from the menai bridge on the straights, its free, quiet calm at times but just want to stay clear of the whirl pools

Depends how much cash you got to burn really..
£1000-£1500 ish..
Kawasaki 550. If you can ride this, you can ride any standup. Its light, not very powerfull, but very skittish.
£1500-£2500
650-701 original superjet. I fell in love with this ski, its great fun but retains a ridgid platform (i.e its quite balanced on the water).
650 Superjet..

Kawasaki 650-750SX
Again, like the above, a good wter breaker. Faster outright than the superjet, but a heavier ski (so hard to do tricks on).
See here for 550 and 650 and 750 info..
http://www.jetski.nu/pages/vattenskoter_museum_kawasaki.htm
Kawasaki 550sx 1991 First
Kawasaki 650sx 1991 2nd.
Kawasaki 750sx 1994-1995 - last one before we sold up...
£2500+
New style 701 Sueprject. Great ride, not quite as stable as older model, but lighter and faster and more tunable.

Type in Jetski, or Personnal Watercraft for searches..

Damn, brings back memories.

Ski's are more effort, take a while to actually learn how to get them going.
I prefer the bikes but thats just me

£4-5K will buy you "just about" i think, a brand new Stand up ski.
Personnally, i'd either look to buy a brand new one, spend time running it in (booooring), or buying a well looked after 2nd hand one for £3k-4k.
Jet bike is a differnet thing altogether. Remember Police Acadamy (film) where they are on jetskis, the black guy who does the voices is on something that looks like to big skis in front of each other. Thats a jetbike, they never really took off.
If your buying it, your parents shouldn't matter. Let them buy their own lol..
We eventually moved to a Sea Doo HX, its a sitdown/stand up ski, dad started getting back issues (funny enough, just recently had 2 disks removed and some of his spine cut away). It was good fun, but I never fealt as "knackard" as i did on the stand ups at the end of the day.
Hard days skiing on a standup, home, shower, bit of food, BANG im asleep
Jetskis the closest thing to a bike, but on water, and doesn't hurt so much when you come off
I would never ever suggest going out without being fully kitted up though, suit, boots, life jacket, and in veyr busy places, bash hat and goggles.
