Like to hear some opinions. When the modding craze start? During university/college period do you work to spend on modding? Did you start spending on car when you were working permanently? Mine started at about 18 when I first got my corsa about a year ago. I work during summer mostly and spend it on modding and to obviously live. I think I should start saving for better things lol but it's too addictive!

i was gna do stuff to my civic, got some wheels which now i really dont want them on cos im past the modding stage, spent loads on my corsa and saved laods when i was workign part time.
now i think sod it and svae for holidays and going out more!!

Similarly, people who modify their mode of transport share a similar mindset across the ages. All are influenced and driven by a competitive spirit, the need to outdo one another in their methods and/or end results. To a certain extent there are additional elements of wanting respect for the effort taken, and to have something out of the ordinary – possibly to make others envious. It would not be unreasonable to add that there is an attraction linked to modifying an otherwise standard vehicle which then elevates the status of the owner.
The modern day car modifier (or “modder”) was borne out of the 1950s Hot Rod scene which sprang up in the United States. The rapid growth of the small block V8 powerplant gave the base for young Americans of sufficient means to create relatively high powered custom cars. The trend grew very rapidly, and with little to distinguish one car from another, the creators of these machines focused on the aesthetic treatments of the vehicles. Some chose to adopt a minimalist approach with only a small amount of bodywork revision – the main visual focus of this variety was the engine – in all likelihood this would be awash with chrome, polished manifolds and vividly coloured pipes or cables.

sums my modding experience up entirely 
would still buy a nice set of wheels and suspension kit though fo a car worthy enough

same here, 17-18 I managed to make a corsa gsi look god awfully minging then gave up modding cars....most examples make me cringe now!!!!
