only know its cumbria and approx 120miles

I stayed in Beech Hill on the bank of Lake Windermere. It was tatty and too expensive. Don't do that. The lake is nice though if you can find somewhere else local.

Shopping, bit of walking perhaps.

theres a wicked little b&b on the edge of lake coniston
i dont really know about hotels though
theres a couple in Ambleside which look half decent though, and one or two in Consiton itself

parents have always had a place in the lakes so iv been brought up over there alot. some pics of dewentwater etc:

keswick has loads of nice places to stay, as does windermere. also some great things to do there! loads of nice littel quiet pubs etc, most do excellent food! plenty of walks around keswick/dewentwater, or drive to thirlmere and can have a walk up helvelyn

If you want a nice meal try the glass house or drunken duck. both expensive but i hear they are pukka

theres some great pubs at each end of the hardknott pass, one is called the Bower House, they do amazing roast dinners, with fresh, hot bread, and i'm pretty sure theres one called the Woolpack, just up the road, thats just as nice.
