Hey people.
Was wondering if anyone has any sites which could help me out or any advice?
I recently ended up rolling into someone in traffic, only at a slow speed max was 10mph?
Anyway a sliproad with a stop sign joining another slip road onto a duel carrageway. Anyway i was watching where my boss was going as he was showing the way home for me so i glanced left down the slip road. The chap in front was a nice safe distance away. Im pretty sure he was on a mobile at the time too.
Anyway i keep a couple of yards apart and look right, its clear and he accelerates for a gap and as its a big gap i accelerate too. Anyway he decides hes not going to go while i check right again so see if its clear. The bumpers touched at a slow speed.
he asked me to write down it was my fault and for my details, i didnt write it was my fault just there was no damage and that we touched.
On the phone i said i could get a bumper from work, he said yeah thats fine and he didnt mind if it went through the insurance or i bought a new bumper and paid to get it fitted.
5 mins later he rang back saying that the boot gaps wrong and doesnt fit.
Today my father spoke to him to see about looking at the car and sorting out a new bumper and he says its too late and that its "twisted" the underneath and that the door gap is wrong. At the time there was 3 5mm scuff marks on the bumper and no other marks which i could see.
Im now pretty annoyed as i dont see it was my fault due to him hesitating and probably being on the phone. Hes obviously trying to make it bigger than it was.
glad ive got that off my chest, any help or advice?
*note* my car hasnt a mark

he is probably bullshitting trying to get money out of you..
But as it was your fault not much really you can do except go through the insurance if he is not happy for you to fix it.
did he sign the bit of paper that said there was no damage
because if he did you could get him on that maybe?

i can understand that if i was following up his arse, but doesnt the fact he was on the phone make a difference and the fact he hesitated and stopped quickly?
I was just wondering if both cars will get looked at by the insurance people? as if they do then when they see mine doesnt have mark then surely they will get a better idea of him trying to hype it up.

99.99% of the time if you hit them from behind it's your fault

can you prove he was on the phone?
Insurance will inspect the cars if there is discrepancy in stories.

yeah im sure he is full of bull, as theres no way just rolling into a car could do that.
he wrote his details for me, and he wrote down mine, he then asked me to write that it was my fault on the paper with my name on, which i didnt do i just put that we touched and no damage, i didnt think about doign two copys.
I guess he would have screwed that up

bloody hell cant keep up with the replys!
I cant prove he was on the phone, i dont know how i could really? without filming him at the time which would have been illegal lol.
He was on the phone straight after too and onto the motorway on the phone.
And yes there is a little discrepancy, he is saying it was a big impact which shook him up. from how he jumped out of the car it didnt look like he was shook up at all, dispite it not being a big impact

yes both cars will get looked at , and if tf there is a dispute on liability and costs usually an intermidary will do it . Unfortunately you hit him from behind and it will be seen as your fault , and as regards the phone , if you say you think you've seen him on it they will say you should allow more space as he was driving without due care and attention .

tbh it doesnt matter if he hesitated or was on the phone etc. bottom line is you shouldve watched where you were going, i know about your boss and you going home etc. but you still have to watch what other drivers are doing, the blame falls squarely with you im afraid.

thanks for the replys people, well i was taught if you go into the back of someone its your fault back when i learnt to drive. Seems a have to have my 1st bump this way
Ill just hope that the people who look at the cars will judge for themselves that it wasnt possible what hes claiming.
Im sure you know what its like though, big gap and you keep rolling and glance to make sure its still safe.

He was probably watching you in his mirror when he stopped knowing exactly what was gonna happen, bet he goes to the Dr with complaints of whiplash.
