Been looking to buy some BMW mini alloys for the girlfriends car, the 17" S Spoke Minilites R85 but they all seem to come with Run Flats.

Now from what robmarriot mentioned before (and he used to work at a tyre fitters) they often develop leaks of some sort and i've heard they give a harsh ride?

Are they really this bad or not?

we had 3 or 4 customers who repeatedly came back with a leaky rim (chuckle)

they do give a harsh ride, its bad enough for some people to replace them with normal tyres, but i suppose its down to personal preference really

if the gfs car doesnt come with runflats, dont put them on it, as she wont know when a tyre is flat (there wont be a warning light on the dash telling her) and it will be quite dangerous

oh, and they are bloody expensive to replace too

you could get them, make sure you check the pressures weekly, and when they wear out, get some normal tyres on it

hmmm thanks for that rob yeah i heard about problems if you have RF and then change to normal and vice versa... reckon i may actually buy them as rim only and wrap it in some rubber for her

the ride in the mini is already fairly harsh and i think she wants it lowered slightly so can only get stiffer... i'll opt for normal

it might work out cheaper to get the rims with tyres, and have the tyres replaced with normal ones

apparently the run flats give a significant drop in performance, are very noisy on the move, and give a harsh ride.

stay clear until the technology is better

I spoke with the guy who made my spare tyre cover for the V8, as he had a BMW cooper with the run flats and I was thinking about investing.

He told me deffo not to, as they give a horrible ride and grip was substandard.
