Was considering one of these as a next car, but I'm very fond of cars that handle very well and have heard mixed opinions about these cars.

Saw this one for sale- 250bhp

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/80816.htm

Bound to be quick in a straight line but will it go round corners well.

Not sure really, might just buy another ITR to be safe.

the brakes are spot on. drove one 100miles down the m5 and sure the back wheels lifted up when i nailed the brakes. about as quick as a corsa xe standed, very nice all round but dont think they justify the price tag?

the car posted has been around scn for a while, all the right mods so should be a very quick car.
I'm thinking of selling mine actually.

If it has Brembo's it'll stop well, standard cupra stoppers arent the best

Sold it back in Janurary to save for a house. Finances are looking better so I'm looking at getting a new car. Just havent updated my profile. Currently have a 106 Gti.

How about the handling though, Ive heard they can be a bit boat like.

Probably wouldnt buy a standard one, would like one where the engine has been fettled with a bit. Although the above one looks nice its a bit pricey I think?

they are basically a polo chassis with golf front suspension and polo rear so not great as standard. 15mm rear spacers and coilovers help a lot

the above one has had a lot of $$ spent on it so depends if u want to buy a pre modded one or wait and do the mods over time.

I love mine, so much tuning potential, plus they are pretty rare. And yes, the std Cupra brakes are shite, some ATE discs and Ferrodo DS2500 pads will help if you cant afford Brembo's.

JK how does the straightline performance of the Cupra R compare with your old 106 Gti. On paper there doesnt seem much in it.

240+ lb/ft of torque @ ~2.7k rpm compared to about 110lb.ft of the gti @ ~5krpm, in gear times will be a lot better

youl notice the difference

my experience of them, had the seat sport suspension kit on handling was still no where near as good as my old 106 rallye.

Heard that the 15mm spacers on rear, neuspeed ARB's and coilovers are the way to go.

Can be very difficult to get the power down, lots of torque & FWD, in damp/wet roads forget it.

Took a CTR driver out in it and he said it would be one damn fast car if it could get the power down.

imo not that great out of the box, but throw a few k at it and youve got a wicked hot hatch and that VAG build quality.
