Because people have jobs in London and get paid more. Though they live in the suburbs. Anywhere commuting distance is expenive.

People get paid more to buy houses that are more expensive than the equivalent in places where people get paid less.

Looks like a quality little pad Mr S. Loving the canal, I could just see ample evenings, bob on the burn, feet on the fence watching the sun go down....
