For a first re-spray you don't want to do metallic, it's too complicated and 9 times out of 10 you'll fuck it up... You also need somewhere big to work to do it all.
Where abouts are you located? Me and a mate do re-sprays in our spare time, as we aren't a bodyshop as such our prices are a lot lower.

as ed says, doing a mettalic job forst time wouldnt be wise, especialy as your only learning
on another note, halfords do mix up half litre and litres of celulose basecoat and they can order in spray guns from sealey and other companies

depends what your doing really, without proper ventilation and respirators then 2 pack paint is harmful as its a carcegenic
basecoat should be given a clearcoat anyway and most of the time thats 2k

2pack is harmful but its worth it for the results. And you dont need a Clear coat with 2pack.

But he wants metallic paint so he has to use a waterbased colour with a 2k clear on top, or do it all in cellulose. But to get a good shine on cellulose you need to thin it down a lot, this makes the paint run very easily.

A colour change would be in the region of £1500-£2000 and a same colour re-spray would be in the region of £1000-£1500 from a reputable bodyshop...

Super thinned cellulose is what I use, but if I had the space and equipment I'd go over to 2k.

Celli is fine - the pic above is how it came out of the gun - if you take your time, and put on lots of coats (of paint, I dont mean wear 14 jackets).

A same colour re-spray would just be the visable pannels on the car, the shuts wouldn't need doing, neither would under the bonnet. It's really just a tidyup job. Or a blowover, but I detest people asking for those or saying that because there is almost the same ammount of work in a same colour as a colour change.
