I have to agree with this.
66% can't be that good a mark.
If it is the standard of the exam is too high and should be brought down to give a better representation of the students.
If 66% is that good how are the people who get 100% differentiated?
Edit to say i'm not saying you haven't done well getting th 66% as I haven't seen the exam.
But the scale the exam is marked in is about 1/3 too long.

Trust me in a Law exam 66% is a good mark...
To even get on the law degree at my uni you need to have obtained 3 A's at A-Level...and then your still not automatically accepted...it goes down to interviews etc...

JUst the way they are marked, to be fair on all most all degrees anything over 80% is unobtainable and unheard of! THere is no way of objectively marking most things, it's a bit bollox really!

Robbo,
I just spent 5 mins briefly scanning that pdf....
Impressive stuff
Before i reply, please lets keep this as a discussion....all i will post is IMO and its bound to vary from company to company
There is a load of subjective stuff in there.....in all honesty I reckon you will use less than 5% of that unless you are in some serious corporate enterprise.
So why do you need to know it all?....or better still why do you need to know approx 66% of it all when knowing nearer to 100% of it in certain areas would be far more benficial to you and the company you work for?
Believe me i hate accountants who think they have a managent role with an absolute passion. Some of the subject matter you have been studying make my blood boil
Thats not having a dig at you lot personally, its just the way that accountants seem to think they know better than the people that actually RUN the business
Whilst I didn't see it in your syllabus, i think there should be a unit called 'accountants, please remember who generates the income to pay your wages'

See you say that but then if you worked ina Finacne dept at a large company you would see that actually accountants do run the companies via mgmt etc :S
budget setting, plan stting, budget challenges etc... its all run throuigh finance and whilst yes, we dont get involved in operational aspects we do have a major major say in how companies are run!

And your quite right, the stuff in the final papers (of which the 1 i posted is) are oof very little use to anyone studying the qualification that i am doing as most are practice accountants (ie make accoutns for clients)

Not saying that directly.
What I AM saying is that accountants (almost 100% of the time) have their financial blinkers on and dont see the bigger picture.
Its like some sort of mantra
'set budget dont move from it (cos its too much work for me)' 'set budget dont move from it (cos its too much work for me)''set budget dont move from it (cos its too much work for me)''set budget dont move from it (cos its too much work for me)''set budget dont move from it (cos its too much work for me)''set budget dont move from it (cos its too much work for me)'
ad infinitum
Then
Cut some costs to sustain my budget....Cut some costs to sustain my budget....Cut some costs to sustain my budget....Cut some costs to sustain my budget....
End result?
Shit staff cos they all fcuk off and shit product.
Financial institutions aside (hey you lot make your own bed you can sleep in it - shame its our money you are playing with) accountancy led businesses more likely fail or run at reduced profits.
Bugger, I ranted again....didnt mean to

I certainly see your viewpoint buddy, the way to combat it is to ensure that, as said, finance does not run the business but at the end of the day budget challenges are a very important part of any business but you also have to allow the generation of new business and new product and cutting bdgets is not always the best way around that

If you believe and understand that post then my job is done.
The biggest lesson to learn in business is to not always to focus on the penny pinching.
Ie:
I say to my boss:- 'I need a new computer, its too slow for what im doing now'
Boss:- I know that, I will have to clear it with the accountant.
Accountant:- Sorry thats not possible, the money isn't included in my cost model.
Boss:- Sorry Jules
Me: Fine, I'll just spend 66% of my time waiting for the computer to catch up with me then, whilst looking at hour glasses. Do I put this down time on my timesheets as admin or productive time?
Boss:- I'll ask the accountant.....
Catch my drift
