Anyone had one of these? Been booked in for 31 August and have been told I will need 2 weeks off work.
Work are not happy as I've already had 2 weeks off after my hernia operation, not to mention the 3-4 days off everytime the tonsillitis re-occurs.
Anyway..
Is it painful? Been told to expect not to be able to eat anything other than ice cream for the first week or so???

Sister had it done couple of years ago...said it was the most painful thing ever...
She lost so much weight too as she couldnt eat due to the pain...couldnt even eat ice cream for days...
But recovery time is quite quick as your mouth is the fastest healing part of your body...

lol had mine done when i was about 17, yes very painfull, you just cant swallow for the pain really even swallowing saliva hurts to much.
and yes they make you eat dry toast just after the operation, as it scrapes the wound and stops clots or something like that, well it was some medical reason.
any way it is really painfull but nothing totally unbearable, specially when they give you a mixture of pain killers lol they were awsome .
aftr the first week its just more of an inconvinience than any thing so you should cope lol.

I Can't imagine it being more painful than after my hernia operation as I couldn't walk for a week after that and the pain of just getting out of a chair was the most pain I have ever experienced in all my life.
Time will tell I suppose..

I hadmine done last august when i was 20.
I cant really remember the pain being unbearable, but it was uncomfortable.
You have to eat toast/crisps as it cleans the throat out and stops it getting infected.
You wont feel like moving for a week, but youl have a nice few days off in the second, i wouldnt tell work that though
I reccomend you get the hospital to give you extra painkillers, so you can numb yourself for the whole week. And make sure you dont miss your medication, you will regret it BIG time
I also reccomend getting a bottle with a 'sports' cap on it, as you can still lay down while drinking, you wont feel like moving.
Ice cream can be good, but dont get a strong flavoured one, it will feel nice at first, but the flavours will start to burn your throat.
The plus side of it all is i havent had tonsilitis again
But i get pharyngitis instead
