5ft...this one I used to have in my bedroom when I was at my parents, and will be coming to my apartment once Ive finished a new stand for it at Easter. Its 5x2x2 with a built in overflow for a sump filter. Not looking its best in the pic!

And lastly my other 5fter...this one is a Juwel Rio400 in Beech. Ive just taken it all apart and about to set it back up again after the fish that was in it died (caught an internal parasite). Is going to get painted white in the next few days.

And this was the fish that was in it, a 9" Serrasalmus Manuelli Piranha, largest in the UK whilst it was alive!!

cosmo you know anywhere who do acryllic tanks?
We are going to have to get a big tank soon. Id prefer to get the big one soonish rather than spend more money going 5ft then up.

Im not sure on who is the best manufacturer as mine have always been glass (acylic at that size is wayyyy out my price range!). Your best checking on aquarist-classifieds.co.uk as most the larger companies advertise on there.
What sort of size you thinking about?

well TBH im not sure, ideally we are going to need a 8ft, thats why i wanted acrylic. God knows where its going to go tho. So we might just end up with a 6ft for now till he gets really big. I also dont wanna put him in a tank to big for him and cause him to hide or get stressed.
Is the weight difference that much?

Yeah the weight diff is huge, it took about 4 of us to lift that 7ft tank of mine which is glass. Would of been easily lifted by two if it was acrylic. It scratches easier though but shallow ones can be buffed out.
At that size though you should notice much difference between a glass or acrylic other than price. As the weight difference will mean nothing with the amount of water going into it!!

what you got?
Dont go with an indoor pool as you cant see them properly and the humididy caused by them can cause major trouble!

South American Red Tailed Cat. Pool is the only way to go if he got too big for an 8fter. That would be way wayyyy down the line, TBH it would prob be rehome before id consider that.
Its quite scarey how fast he is growing tho

would you like to read into them. the one i posted isnt fully grown. they can reach 5ft and over. Visit your local deep sea world they usually have them.
A fish should never be kept in a tank that will stunt their growth.

There are actually alot of arguements that suggest aquarium fish can grow larger than wild ones, due to better water conditions, more regular and nutricious diet, lack of predators, etc.

largest one ever recorded was just shy of 2 meters in length in the wild
so he will be in deep sea world long before then

Cosmo, how often would you do water changes on your tank when you had the piranah??
I guess they just in a standard fresh water tropical tank??
I really want a salt water tropical tank, just not sure if i can be honest enough to keep the water up to scratch.

No, my tank is empty while I wait for the importer from Venezula to sort his shit out and get what he has been keeping for me for a couple of months over here. Have been working on the tank in tat time though so repainted and rebuilt the stand. Should hopefully be all done soon I hope!

When I had 10 of them in my 5ft tank I would do a water change once or twice a week when I had time (about 20% each time) as they can be really messy eaters especially if feeding them meat which will quickly polute the water.
Salt water takes more care as you need to keep the water your changing into the tank for a few days to get the salt levels right. Plus salt water fish are alot more prone to differences in the water changes, so have to keep things as much the same as possible.
