i've seen them things run towards people, rise up on their rear sets of legs with one pair in the air. i think the male ones are much smaller too. how rare are they where you live mr monkey??

yes the male is smaller, and unusually carries the more potent version of Atraxatoxin, the venom. its up there with the most poisonous chemicals to humans. they rise up on their back 4 legs in an attacking stance, and use their power and force to attack a victim, driving their inch long fangs deep into the skin. sharp enough and strong enough to pierce a fingernail too. they ar quite timid spiders, but found widespread around New South Wales, moreso in Sydney. so not rare at all. Redbacks are more aggressive but smaller, and often find them in the house
