Sign Switch Stunt Foiled!
By SUN ONLINE REPORTER
A DRIVER tried to dodge a speeding ticket by moving a 40mph road sign to a 30mph zone.
John Hopwood, 42, removed the sign from a road in Manchester to one in Rochdale after he was caught speeding twice in two days.
He then took a photograph of the sign to “prove” he had been closer to the limit than first thought.
But the driver’s plan was foiled after lawyers drafted in a facial mapping expert to study marks on the signposts.
He has now been found guilty of attempting to pervert the course of justice at Manchester Crown Court.
Judge Anthony Ensor adjourned sentencing until July 4.
He warned Hopwood, from Hazel Grove in Stockport, he could face jail.
I think its a bit tight that he might get jail!

Not at all. How would you feel if you'd driven down that road saw the 40 sign then got flashed?
If you get caught you should just deal with it and maybe not speed in future if you can't handle the concequences.

It's not "tight" atall. As loaforbrett says, imagine if you got flashed. Also, it must be 30 for a reason, with the limit being 40mph, most people will do around 45mph...15mph over the original limit. Could be kids around etc?

I don't think the other people speeding is the main issue here its the fact he tried to destory/alter evidence in order to be found incocent.

plus I heard on the news this morning that their gonna put average speed cameras in 20mph zones, they calculate when you enter and leave, as speed bumps don't seem to slow people down!

by the look of your avatar, you dont have a choice!
Instead of jailing the guy, id give him the task of cleaning the lenses on all local speed cameras, daily. that'll teach 'em.
