when i was 11-12 a mate commited suicide, i tried to go to the funeral but couldnt. when its a grandparent you can kinda accept it as theyre old and have lived their life, when someone has been taken before their time makes it so much harder

i wouldnt, imo i dont see the point to it all, you dont have to go to show that you care. Especially if its religious.
it makes you feel like crap

I was at my first ever funeral last Monday. My cousin and his mate drowned in the sea at Blackpool.
We were pretty close and I am gutted. My first instinct was I deffo wasn't going to the funeral, couldn't face it, knew I would get really upset. But as it got nearer I decided to go and I'm really glad I did. It was very emotional, and I did get upset, but it gave me the chance to say goodbye properly. But don't feel your not showing your respect if you don't go, its a personal decision.

I carried coffin into church at mates funeral was really hard and was only 17
Glad my mum kept me away from them until I was 13/14, don't think it's right for kids to go.
Jade sorry to hear about your cousin, I read about that
Jim i'd go if you want to, it's not disrespectful to not go, people will grieve in their own ways.

About two years ago one of my close friends and X byfriend died of a bloody clot, caused when he broke his thumb when some prick from school was fighting with him , the blood clot travelled from his thumb to his lungs, he just literally fell down to the floor and died, and couldnt be resusitated, what made it worse is the fact that i was only talking to him face to face the day before, and he was fine laughing and joking.
Didn't want to go to his funeral as things like that upset me really badly, and get to me loads, but i thought i should show him my respect and see him off sort of thing. There was over 500 people in the church.. mostly school friends.
I say go.. show him your respects, it doesnt matter who else is there... its you being there that counts!

I hate the idea of funerals, when I die its gonna be my last wish that I dont want a big funeral and to be burried in a graveyard. Just want people to get together and get pissed remembering me.

Yep, my mate died when he was 14 of an Asthma attack, was harder going to that funeral than my grandads, even though I cared about my grandad more.

I know what you mean about not wanting to go, my 17 year old cousin, who was more of a brother, was killed 3 months ago, my initial reaction was no way can I go to the funeral. But in the end I did go, and also saw him before the funeral. Seeing how many mates he had (300+ at funeral) made me feel so much better, I also carried the coffin and lowered him down.
