that true john? thought there were using a complete new processor to the toshiba RISC processors used in the PS2?

though i heard none of the games ever pushed the ps2 to its limits and game developers always said that games could have been a lot lot better than what they were - if its true, then i could understand that they are going to bodge manufacturing of the ps3 with some of the ps2 inners, though ive always been lead to believe that the ps3 would be a complete new overhaul using the new "Cell" system?

Sorry I wasn't clear enough.
Its got a whole ps2 inside to play the ps2 games.
They haven't got the software to emulate the ps2 properly yet.
The ps3 is based on the cell yip.

ahhhh...ok. So basically you'll have a ps2 running along side your ps3....nice bodging

They even managed to emulate any ps2 games on the ps3 hardware yet?

I assume they can do it but just not at full speed.
Getting the console out the door on time must be a bigger priority.

did this with xbox360 made about £200 on it

But im dubious that stock levels will be good enough so that same sit wont happen....

stocks levels will be very low according to retailers, plus demand at xmas will always outstrip supply as parents try to fulfill childrens demands,
