I can't understand why a band has to release a 'best of' type album, Surely if you're a fan then you've already got all the singles

Oh wait, this one has 2 NEW songs!! Whoopeee

I think it was to show the fans of the 'newer' generation ie pushing the senses, or maybe even the comfort and sound era more aware of the older music from 'swim', 'polythene' etc.

Probably for the same reason they release those 'Ibiza Anthems' type compolations every single year, with the same shit songs from last year mixed in a different order... wooopeee!!
But die-hard fans or collectors will still buy it even tho they already own the songs, and it exposes the best of what the band has to offer so far to a new audience that will hopefully buy future albums, singles, gig tickets, etc.

its not designed for the fans though, as like you said they will have them all on CD already. Its for the ones who have always liked one or two songs on the album but not enough to buy it, so they will when they are all together.

its all because people like me have one feeder album, but like all of the singles, and cant be arsed to buy the rest of the albums or all the sinlges

same reason why i have the best of ash, and the best of the beatles etc.... cos im lazy and cheap

and its indie, not indy *shakes head*
