righto,
i got some parts on my corsa colour coded back in september 2004. last summer i started to notice cracks appearing on the arches - where they meet the bodywork. i thought it was a bit off but the cracks were minimal so thought i'd leave it. this is what they look like now:

i think this is absolutley appalling. not even 2 years have passed and the paint is flaking off everywhere. the shocking thing is it doesnt even look like the surface was prepped ready for painting! it doesnt look sanded or smoothed, it just looks like the normal nobbly plastic, untouched!
has this happened to anyone else? if so, what did you do?
the bodyshop i took it to was Barry Roberts in Retford. he has a good reputation and was recommended! what my POA be? take it back, show him and ask him to respray free of charge?

Dont ask at first,
ask why the area that has cracked wasnt sanded. Then ask what primer he used. Why it would of happened.

i dont know much about spraying but in the pic where the headlight is, it just looks like theyve sprayed over the plastic without prepping it

bring your car to the body shop. demand answers. But they may make things difficult as it was 2 years ago, but no excuse not to prep the car properly

i very much doubt the bodyshop will do anything for free as it was such a long time ago.they may knock a little off the price, but lets be honest, would u want to go back and get work done by that bodyshop again?

Go and see them, take your reciept with you. It should'nt ever come off if the plastic is prepped properly and everything is done properly. Dont know how you stand legally though.

Gotta be something along the lines of goods being of a merchantable quality, but applied to services too. Try ringing Trading Standards in your area and seeing what the deal is.

thats what happens when you try and spray that type of plastic, its too porous.
My bodyshop who spray for audi/vw wont even guarantee spraying that type of knobbly plastic, they will do it but will say theres no guarantee with it as moisture gets trapped in the plastic and is impossible to tell if its all been gotten out

You can spray ontop of that plastic, but you need to smooth out the pattern off it first.
The area around the headlight hasnt been key'ed properly first, so you can argue your case for it. As for the arches, it shouldnt crack there unless they've not bothered taking the arches off before spraying.

even if you get the knobbles out, its the properties of the plastic, retains moisture or summit

im sure beardy has said do not sand them flat just enough for the paint to grip onto then use a high build primer
