I suspect its a genuine shell with lots of alteration and cleaning up.
Read this for info on the standard car.

also, the last of the line merlin engines had twin superchargers and were running 25psi, equating to about 2640bhp @ 2500rpm
silly power
He built the car to prove the strength of his gearboxes Robin.
He built auto boxes, and it was a test bed for his own stuff.

What does it look like now if anyone has some pics?
If you're referring to 'The Beast' John, yes it was a custom job.
It looked like a cross between a Bristol and a Reliant Scimitar, only huge and with a Rolls Royce grille.
He used to work for Rolls Royce (hence the grille), but they got all legal on him and made him remove it. It now sports an ugly fibreglass front panel with vents and slots in it instead.
I used to know a chap through work who was friends with the bloke who built 'The Beast', and I remember it being in mags when I was little, and being told all about it by my Dad.

Those SD1 bodies were quite well put together and seem to last remarkably well John.
It'll be an original one with 'structural enhancements'
