remove all non essential hardware components until you are left with the bare essentials, ie, mobo, cpu, hdd, keyboard and mouse and monitor and video card
try and boot into safe mode holding F8, if you are still getting problems i suggest there is something wrong with your hardware

the only thing conected apart from the bear essentials is a dvd rw, dvd plaer, cd rw. but i need one of them in to load the windows cd.

was thinking again maybe put my hard drive out of PC1 (old pc, the one i'm on now) into PC2 (the new one) and maybe that will work, as this hdd already has windows and stuff loaded up on it. then myabe sort the problems out from there?

the new HDD could well have a fault considering its brand new. every single HDD have small amounts of botched sectors, but they adapt to not to write on them using the logic controller underneath. if these bad sectors are too large, they can ruin the hdd

so the whole problem could be with the new hdd?

what about the suggestion of putting the old ide hdd into the new pc, with the sata hdd still conected?

Sounds to me like the HD is the problem.

Have you got a spare? If so try that.

When building i usually find its either 50/50 on mboard or HD.

there's your problem RIGHT there!

install the normal 32bit XP Pro, as 64bit still has issues with alot of devices not being supported & drivers still being buggy...
