Just got a new bike to try and save a bit of money in petrol. I know nothing about bikes-- havnt been on one for about 10 years. I have got it all together and its all good except for the front v brakes.
Basically i just cant get them to sit right, either one side is touching the rim and the other doesnt get pulled in, or they both just touch the rim. The backs were fine- both padzs move in evenly when the lever is pulled and they sit perfect.
Anybody got any advice other than taking it to someone that knows what they are doing
Its a gt aggressor 2 if that helps anyone. Also what sort of service should i be looking at doing to the bike-- only going to be using it 3-5 times a week for about half an hour at a time..... mainly on tarmac

there's normally a screw near the bottom that allows you to adjust how far each brake arm is away from the rim.

yeah tighten the screw of the arm that is sitting closest to the rim, thsi puts more tension into it and shouldmean it sits further back

yer but rember dont over tighten one side as slackening the other one that is pulling harder has the same effect
as you want an even amount of tension and it strong enough so it pulls the pads away effectivly
As its not a cheap bike you shouldnt have any problems as the brakes will be of reasonable quality.

anybody know if you have to maintain the suspension on these bikes at all--- do they need lubricating or anything?

Na, for what your doing you wont need to. If it has rear suspension then you can't service that yourself anyway.
