I know it is not a vw forum but still I am just asking. Has anybody driven one? I think they look nice for their age. My dad is getting one most probably. Cheapish but needs a few bits of body repairs. If he gets it .. we'll do a few mods .. black respray, retrim and some appropriate rims. Maybe lower it. Btw it has a 1.6L
Any opinions?

Rabbit is the name that vw gave the golf in America.
The Clipper was just a low spec carb'd cabrio as opposed to the GTi variant.
I wouldn't advise one to anybody, apart from someone I hated.
All the ones I have driven over the past 14 years have been dreadfull.
Loads of scuttle shake, realy awkward handling and understeer. VERY VERY heavy steering. Lots of chassis twist and flex. Poor brakes and poor interior space, especially head room.
The Mk III is not much better in basic respects either.
If you're after an older vw with some character, i'd say you're better off with a nice MK II 16V GTi with big bumpers in Oak green with the BBS rims.

No Andy, it's bigger, faster, rarer and worth more.
They came with the bumpers and BBS wheels as standard.
