Apart from the transmission and the lack of an integrated roof, lovely.

Yes they look dated, but they are a good buy at the moment. Not far off same spec as an E46, cheapish to run, just be careful of Vanos on them but the Evo is certainly the one to go for. About to buy myself a 1998 convertible in Estoril blue, 18'' Schnitzer rims, angel eyes etc

But i suppose if werido gearboxes are your thing itd be good, to people saying it looks dated, maybe they do but u cant see the outside when your driving.
And PMSL @ a clio 172 What planet are you on

Yup, the engine is nowhere near as strong as the normal M3 iirc

theres a problem with the Vanos manifold, but IIRC this hasnt affected ALL of them, and the claims of unreliability are most probably based on what most internet car myths are. Bullshit.
But its deffor worth checking
Also "non evo" m3s were only sold from 93-95??? if im not mistaken, so 95% of the M3s you will see will all be Evo's, they also had considerably more power

Now thats a real car.....stacks of style aswell
Id get a normal 6 speed if possible!!
Dont worry about the vanos - get it checked regularly & it wont be a problem!!

Its the double vanos on the evo compaired to the 3.0L's single vanos vairable valve timing that can go tits up, it should be treated as a consumable & checked regularly.

Evo's a 3.2 with 321bhp, non evo is 3.0 with 286 odd - The Vanos rumour is semi true, they aren't as bad as people make out and most have had a recall done by BMW anyway
