you have to have no criminal record, have no interest in the case, and be capable of independant thought thats why most on here are ruled out

You are eligible for jury service if:

You will be at least 18 years old, and under 70 years old, on the day that you start your jury service; and
You are registered as a parliamentary or local government elector; and
You have lived in the United Kingdom, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man for any period of at least 5 years since you were 13 years old.
Most people qualify for Jury Service, but there are circumstances which may disqualify you. These are listed below. If you are unsure of whether any of these apply to you or not, please contact the Jury Central Summoning Bureau.

I wouldn't know till I was put in the situation if I would any good on a jury as its easy to say you would be impartial but you wont know till you are summoned and find out what case it is.

The judge will only ask questions related to the case, for example if there is a long list of witnesses the judge may read out the names, and if you know anyone, you'll be excused from that particular case. All names are picked at random and no-one is deemed unsuitable as such.

not unless you have criminal record...

oh

what do you know...

ive never done it and im 28

also if you get a letter from your place of work saying that you cannot be missed/have time off work/etc you can avoid it

The only time ive seen a judge excuse anyone from a particular case is if they have a booked holiday which is paid for, or extremem work difficulties. And this is only for cases which run on longer than the expected 2 weeks.

Anyone can be sent a summons letter. Like I said your reply to the summons is basically an application.

Things have changed with regards to people in certain powers being able to do jury service. Police and barristers can do it now where-as before they couldn't. Even judges do jury service now.

Also, no matter how much you earn, you're only entitled to a certain amount of money for your service. I think the maximum rate now is £58 a day. Bit of a kick in the teeth if you earn well.
