Hi, i've tried contacted the site admin and a couple of moderators but i've had no response. I hope i don't get in trouble for posting this as they havn't actually given me the all clear, but i feel it is worthy of getting in trouble for.

I'm guessing lots of you guys have decent sound systems in your car and other sat nav equipment, well please read a few lines below for help in stopping theft of your gear.

The theft of car audio and satellite navigation equipment is on the increase.

A team of three enthusiasts have created a unique website for the car audio community which allows people to register the details of their valuable equipment on a secure database, allowing potential buyers to check the authenticity of a piece of kit before buying it.

The aim is to make it so hard for thieves to sell stolen equipment, that your valuable audio and navigation equipment becomes much less of a tempting target.

Any questions? email ben@iceregister.co.uk or james@iceregister.co.uk, and we'll get back to you ASAP. Big thanks to the forum owners for giving permission to post!

It's free to join, so sign up today at www.iceregister.co.uk!

These guys have been on the front page on maxpower and are getting their name across the internet. Hopefully one day it'll be so hard to sell on stolen equipment it will become less of a problem.

Thanks guys.

sounds like a good idea really mate, thing is the people who buy the stolen goods more than likely know they're stolen so would'nt register

all the same it should have an impact

They don't actually aim to profit. Distributors are obviously advertising on their site but i know for a fact that the site is a non-profit idea, its just trying to cut down on the ammount of stolen goods.

The idea is when you buy an amp, or similar you register it on the website, you don't pay anything but that item is then listed on the site. It will show up as "in use", "stolen" or whatever. If someone sees the item on ebay all they'd need to do is ask for the serial number (i always do anyway). You would then check the serial number on the site and see if its for sale or registerd stolen. if its stolen, click "report" and the police are alerted onto the ebay auction and the person will get arrested.

Some time by the middle of the summer there is hoped to be police database access so that when they pull some one over for a stop check they can see an expensive amp, check the serial number, see its stolen and get the amp back.

There is a subscription available of £5 a year, it'll get you a UV pen and some other gear, also discount at ANY of the liked distributors, so if you buy one item for £100 you've already got your money back.

Great, the more people that know about it and use it the better. There are some interesting things in the pipeline for what the future holds for www.iceregister.co.uk - police backing is the rough gist of things, anything to stop theiving scum bags taking / keeping / selling out hard earned gear is superb!
