you can pic them up for less than £1k no probs but if you want something that is going to last abit longer, spend some money and get one that has already had a few things uprated. my bro bought one a few months back for £2300 but its running 208bhp safely and he uses it every day

I had one, sold it recently for £1550 
I was second owner, was well looked after, but I wouldn't say they were an everyday car. Such a cunt without power steering and they laugh at you if you try and run it cold, so you always have to sit for 10mins to warm it up.
I know they're old cars, but sitting inside one is like going back in time, with the daft windscreen wiper lever that jabs your knee and the stupid compartment with the giant flap on the dash 
You're hard pushed to find a descent one these days. Plus, i'd ignore the advice of buying a modded one, probably the worst thing you could do when buying a R5. They are totally reliable left standard.
