Run a new fused power wire with switch built in from the battery. Can switch it on and off anytime you want then and no danger of overloading any standard wires. Dont forget to earth it

I did it the way you want to. Get your head down in the passenger foot well and you should see a load of cables coming from behind the glove box. It might be easier to take the glove gox out. From memory the cable you want is grey with a black stripe on it but dont just start cutting up wires without first testing with a multi meter. Earth can attach to the chasis somewhere down there. I drilled a small hole through a piece of metal just shoeing above the plastic.
