Personally I would buy/borrow/hire an Elise for a bit before deciding to throw loads of money at a car you've never lived with.
Exige is generally an upgrade for people who have found the limits of their Elise. Plus Elises are half the price and an old one won't lose that much when you discover you can't get in.

I knew somebody with an exige and an elise.
Apparently the elise was a much better car to drive on the roads.
Exige would be amazing on a track though.

Was planning on doing a couple of track days before I buy, to make sure i like it and learn what the car can do in a safe environment

Badge snobbery no doubt
Seriously though, Exige S will probably be next on my shopping list when I get bored of the VX (cant see that happening too soon)
