if the gasket goes between t cylinders, then it can make a 'slapping' noise as it did this on my old corsa...

take the belt cover off & just inspect the belt & pulleys & pump, just see how its all holding up

tbh youd be best of doing a compression test on the engine, but like mark said, starting it IF the waterpump has gone, it could give & then shaft the whole engine

but hopefully, it is just a gasket issue...

yes, if it has goe all to shit!

also... you say your loosing water?? if the water filled a cylinder or 2... then it wont start & the slapping could also be because of that...

check there is water in the cylinders, get a piece of string, remove plugs & just put a good length in each plug hole, pull it out & if its wet, then water is leaking in

water must be going somewhere else then...

no damp patches in passenger/driver footwell is there??

next step then just check whole indition of belt & teeth on belt & get compression test done i guess!

Does anyone know how much it costs to have the head gasket replaced???

I'm just gonna change the cam belt and water pump at the same time, I'm guessing £200 would cover it???

Be more than £250 surely, if the gasket has gone between cylinders it will defo need a skim. Id skim it anyway just in case. If ya get it changed ya best to get new water pump, oil pump, tensiioners and idler pulleys thown on while ya have a chance
