Im a Prisoner Escort at a Crown Court, basically i sit in court with prisoners whilst they're on trial, getting sentenced etc. Obviously the custodies come from prison so we have a cell area where they're banged up when not in court.

I love the job, something different everyday etc but i seriously fear for my safety We have 10 officers, 4 males and 6 females. One of the males is 63 years old, one is 19 years old and about 7 stone dripping wet, and the other can hardly speak English and is completley useless.
My problem is this, because im the biggest male all the staff look to me when it comes to a kick off, and we have prisoners kick off numerous times a week... refusing to get back in their cell, refusing to get on the prison van etc.
Today was an excellent example. We had a guy in today - extremley violent, enjoys violence more than sex, mentally ill, and sees all males as a threat. He's looking at a life sentence as he's an extreme danger to the public so has nothing to lose. The solution to the many potential problems: Craig has to take him to court. He didnt want to go back to the prison he came from as he has a problem with all the officers there - he's also up for ABH on an officer because he knocked him out cold. It took 15 officers to restrain him and he caused that many problems they had to put the prison on lockdown. He didnt have a choice where he was going, he had to go back - the solution: Craig can give him the bad news.

Now, what the f*ck could i have done if he'd have kicked off because basically i was his nanny all day. I certainly didn't have faith in the staff behind me. For guys like this in the past, police have brought people to court in full riot gear: shields, batons, CS spray etc... the prison officers have lots of back up in regards to officers, but they get batons etc too... oh no but not me. What do i have? F*ck all

As i say i love the job but having to single handidly deal with murderers, mentally ill violent psycho's day in day out is annoying to say the least.

Sorry for the rant

Or let the young lad deal with something a bit lairy (with you there just in case it gets dangerous.) If he thinks you're going to leave him in it he might shoot himself and get down the gym.

In one respect, yes that's true, but if i was out on the street it'd probably be very rare that i'd actually meet them. Doing my job i'm meeting them every day of the week. And you'd be suprised what they can make into weapons.

Why not go to your manager and tell him/her that you are concerned that your team cant do their job properly.Maybe its time they had a recruitment drive with the minimum weight 14 stone?

Yeah we're trained in C&R (Control and Restraint) but it's a load of bollocks. Totally impractical in the real world. If you get a big lad with a few runts hanging off each limb trying to get locks on, it just wont work.
