How long after Ive been to the DVLA place and transferred the private plate onto the car do I have to get the new plates on it?

As have got my gf one for her bday, and want to get it transferred onto her car a few days before her bday then change them over the night before.

yeah, I'd rather do it a few days before though, so can put it on while she is in bed and suprise her with it in the morning. So was wondering if its OK to drive around with the old plates for a day or so.

at the end of the day, it takes them bout 4 weeks to send the log book through after you go anyway, so tbh i though you would have been ok, as no one will know for a good couple of weeks after you have it done, they are not that much of fast workers
