I've done both and prefered the snowboarding.

Probably as you mentioned for the freestyle side just enjoy messing about in the snow, skiers suk

Skiers normally get more air time in the pipe as its slightly easier to get speed up

True the newbies also get tangelled up attempting helicopters which I love watching

I've tried them both and although im MUCH better at skiing, i still prefer boarding.
