like in the acrylic paintings people have done

i want the full picture black white and possibly grey

no more colours

nice chunks of black etc

top picture has been traced like ian said and a lame filter.

the second one is a vector. alot more difficult, can't be done properly using filters.

i have used the chalk one (think its chalk) looks almost like the top one but too much detail

how do i trace?

adjsut the brightness contrast levels of the pic and then use select colour range to choose the colours you want. Then fill the selections on new layers

have you desatuated image first, if so after youve adjsuted contrast go to select at the top then colour range, there you have the options to select shadows which are the darkest areas, midtones, greys or whatever you want

got the general idea but there are no sweeping lines like the shaddow on the girls face in your avatar, more pixelated in smaller bits making it hard to paint

ok i think its 'cos my pic was very small. tried another one and it worked better, still no smooth line tho

copied the 3 layers, (shadow, hi, mid) how can i edit the colours?

when youve got the 3 diff colours on each diff layer just select them and use the paint fill tool to change the colours. If you increase the contrast you can get smoother lines

Just go to the effects tab and do cut out, thats the one you want, none of this layers and brightness crap
