I've got a 1.5 mazda, supposed to get 40mpg etc.

Anyway recently its been getting 50 miles to #10 (25mpg)

checked:

brakes for sticking
tracking
tyre pressures
coolant sensor
lambda sensor looks ok

what else could it be?

Think it could be my 'granny style driving' as I change gear at 2000 rpm, think 3000 rpm could be better

tracking destroys fuel economy if its out, as would pressures and wheel balance

rag it a bit to clean it out, then see if it still does it

also, try a service

Also bear in mind the recent cold weather kills fuel economy in general.

I get around 28 mpg (average) at the moment. Summer was 32 mpg on average.

Sitting at 70 on the motorway is about 34 mpg. Sitting at 90 on the test track is about 27 mpg.

Mazda engines have peak torque further up the rev range (about 4k) so rev higher to change gears. Check spark plugs, exhuast, air filter and fuel filter. If no luck then check the cam belt timing with a garage.
