If you swap a wide belt for a wide betl and a narrow for a narrow yes.

whats the belt called i need then? will it go round that thing at the bottom of the engine that turns also pmsl,dont know the name

the crankshaft pulley 
You need a single v belt, not the flat belt with lots of grooves on. They're obviously different...

or am i on about the wrong thing is the single v belt for the cams? im lost please help lol

There is a single v belt that drives the alternator off a pulley at the bottom of the engine (the big one you can see if you look through your wheelarch on the drivers side).
Behind that, in a plastic cover, is the cambelt, which is totally separate, and is a toothed belt. That, unsurprisingly, drives the cams from the crankshaft so the valves open at the right times and don't hit pistons etc.
You don't need to and shouldn't touch cambelt if you're fitting new alternator.
