its the egr (exhaust gas re-circularization system) as far as i can work out it to do with meeting the Eu gas emmissons

its a secondary air pump. helps engine emissions.

engine light wont come on

if you unplug the pump & remove it, along with the hose to the exhaust manifold, it will be fine

just make sure you bumg up the vacum pipes tho as there is a sensor right next to the pump, if you remove it the EML will come on, but blocking the vacum line tricks it into thinking its still there
