You need to...

Get recipt back
Get returns policy
Check if you were entitled to a refund and if you are...

Go into the store, ask for the manager. Explain what happened and ask why you were told you couldnt have a refund when the policy states u can and see what happens

If you werent entitled to a refund when you bought the item they should have made you aware it was 'non refundable' after purchase....

"That means that goods should be what you reasonably expect them to be considering the price you paid. If these requirements are not met then you may have a legal right to reject them and get your money back. "

argue this and ask them kindly to please G.T.F and give you your money back. If they still say no go higher, keep on goin higher until you get to the top, they will probably give you a refund at some point then just so they are seen as good customer service, if not go to citizen's advice and have a chat with them but make sure they know that you are going there to seek advice.

bit dopey letting them give it back to see if there was something wrong with, knowing that its fine, just very crap.

what are they going to say?

''JBL said, 'its not broken, its just a shoot amplifier.'

you shouldve broken it. even my local halfrauds wont take stuff back until you drop it a few times.

The shop are under no obligation to take this item back if its fit for purpose, which I would have said it is. The fact your head unit is more powerful is beside the point.

Legally, the fact you have better stuff doesn't mean the shop should take back the poor stuff.

The only exceptions or where the shop policy is to offer a cooling off period - as is the case with Argos for example, but this is over and above their legal obligation.

There are also distance selling regulations which give you I think 7 days - but this sale would not fall in to this category.

Basically any return is if they are feeling good, or you can make the point that its not fit for the purpose of increasing the power output of your existing system, which unless they sold you the other bits in conjunction with that you are going to have a hard time proving.
