i always thought about doing the IAM test, does it make a big difference with insurance. might look into it more when my mum gets her new car in march, as dont think i could realy do it in mine
EDIT: just remembered when looking at the site i actually got something sent out to me must look for it.
have a look here for info http://www.iam.org.uk/index.php

I thought Teddy said this was expensive?
see below extract taken from the above website -
I've heard this sort of thing is expensive!
You may have heard figures in the order of £200, £300, or even more. However, don't believe what people tell you. Before we give you the full details of the actual cost, ask yourself how much your "No Claims Bonus" discount and your "Policy Excess" is (i.e. how much of any claim on your vehicle insurance you have to pay yourself) for your current vehicle Insurance. Bear that figure in mind.
The full maximum costs give the truth of the matter. You could have passed the IAM Advanced Test and have become an Advanced Motorist and a Member of the IAM for no more than £85.
Yes - no more than £85!

Looking further down that page, if ur under 25, its only £75 maximum.
But it also mentions its £18 a year membership thereafter.
So how hard is the course/ test and what kind of average percentage savings are availible on insurance? I live in a really really poor postcode, which i cant help, so if i can get my premium down a bit, tis good.
Just seems that after paying £18 per lesson and £70-odd for a basic driving test, £85 all-in sounds good.
