its not 25 years though as said above it had to have been registered before 1973.so only cars registered before 1973 can have free tax anything after doesn't become excempt

ye it has to have been registered before 73. basically i think its because new cars are made from plastic (wings etc) and galvonised steel so last longer, so there will be more tax exempt cars on the road in the future!
