my uncle came over during christmas and he is a classic car enthusiast he owns a mgb and a jenson intercepta......

anyway to cut a long story short we got onto subject on why he does he not drive them and they just sit in his garage til all eternity, both of them are extremely good examples and look better than most showroom shines, they have never been out on a rainy day etc.

he in his mid 60's now and i just found myself gettin mad with him as he may aswell enjoy them now he gettin older as he cant take em with him, i mean im all for keeping things nice as thats why i look after mine too much really but i enjoy it and like to think i have most from it. what do peeps think.........???

As Nath said. Obviously I understand not driving the car on a rainy day or in the winder when the roads are salty. But in the summer I would aim to take the car out weekly.

ive never been able to understand the pleasure in buying a car and just staring at it, tbh i think its a bit sad. fair enough not using a rare car in winter, rain etc. the only way i see it makes sense is if they were to be kept in that condition until they became highly collectable, and then sold on

i never take my mid 90's shopping car out ona rainy day, let alone a jenseon interceptor

perfectley fair if it only gets driven in fair weather etc as its likely to keep it looking better for longer etc

The only person whos going to benefit is the next owner hence my philosophy of drive it regardless of conditions. I reckon you got more chance of gettin hit or worry about gettinghit if you dont drive it often.

Also with all these big power toys people have if you dont drive it often how the hell are you going to learn how to drive it and learn thelimits etc without scaring yourself?

Its his car to do what he wants with.

Cars were built to be driven but what a sad thing it would be if say all the jensons were ragged until they were all crashed or blown up and then scrapped and there were none left around.

Fair play to him i say!

my dad has a very nice e-type jag series 1 4.2, its mint, but due to the way it will rot very quicky due to lack of protection underneath its not worth using during the winter he uses his on dry summer days takes it to prescott hillclimb once a year and one several track day thinks, it gets used but no in winter, the way they should be IMO, preserved but used, people like to see cars like this on the roads, he used to have an mgb aswell but that was stupid so he sold it

yeh my uncle goes on these meets in wales but wont attend alot of them case it rains lol

i dont want him to rag them and kill them but he may aswell drive and enjoy them, as like previously said the next owner will and that is a shame. not as if he has 40-50yrs left to enjoy them he may aswell drive them

i cant get pics dude as he lives in bridgewater which is not just down the road but i could ask him to forward some, thats if he no's how lol

ohh and back to topic,,got a bit carried away there!!

dont see anything wrong with what hes doing, wont ever get bumped that way no jealous vandalls can get near it yet he can still go have a fiddle with them any time he wanted!!

iv got an old 944 which is hardly a collectors car but i still get a wee feeling of pride when i see it siting in my drive

technically it is a collectors tbh as mine as being the 2.7 was only made for 1 year in 1989

Hate MGs, but I wouldn't be able to keep my hands off the Interceptor.

I'd flog the 'B' to a stupid american and buy a Cosworth and thrash that and the Jensen aswell.
