just got my christmas rota. work for a private prison so have to work over xmas and new year. been given xmas and boxing day off but am told i have to work my days off over new year to make up for it!!
ive been told i have to do work 10 days straight (86 hours!) before a day off.
does anyone know if theres a legal limit to the number of days you can work in a row without a rostered day off??
thanks in advance

If you have signed to be exempt from the EU working time directive then IIRC you cant really do much. Not 100% sure though.

same at our place mate. they never help you out unless they are in the shoot and need you to work extra days off etc. they gave me xmas off because i said i was leaving if i didn't get them off, so they stitch me up another way every time!!

sounds about right. I got of 12 hour shift got home one evening only to get a call i told them i wouldn't work that night no one else would do it either did it in the end for £35 an hour for a 10 hour shift ended up being 2 nights so a nice bit of cash at the end of the week swings and roundabouts them that lot. Are thay increasing your rate over xmas to compensate ?? double bubble on new years and xmas day

on average you cannot work more than a 48 hour week, but that is averaged over ## weeks, i work in the transport industry so it will be diff to what we work with
If you've signed anything detailling that u will work whatever they tell you then i doubt there is anything u can do about it
If i were you i would talk to your boss/whoever, and ask if its possible to perhaps swap or do different days as you feel working every day for 10 days is going to be shattering and really tire you out
If they have a heart they will hopefully sort somthing out for you, if not i would look into your contract
