I'm asking because i have to write about the materials used to make a forklift truck for uni, there's hardly anything on the net. I only need the basics such as what the chassis is made from, forks, wheels, seat, dashboard etc..
Any help would be appreciated

i drive one, but couldnt tell you the first thing about what its made from

thanks lads, do you know if they are weighed down by anything to stop them from tipping? i think toyota have a system that stops this...and do you know if the main chassis is steel or aluminium?

theyre weighed down yeah, as theyre called counter balance trucks i think

the battery ones have a lot of batteried holding the back down, aswell as a big metal weight on the back, think itll be cast iron weight... not likely to be lead the ones i used to drive was pretty tough... lead isnt that tough... will be steel, the more weight in the basis of the machine the better, the roll bar will prob be mild steel, goitta be tough.... look at whidney cabs, think that the name of the company, based in northampton, they make the cabs, also try lansing lindy, and KAB\\seating make the seats for alot of them (used to work there)

i drive two in work one will lift aound 3 ton an our big one will lift jus over 10 an a half ton its got a 5ltr v8 engine in it can get some pics if u wnt

we lifted a new mini about 6 ft high with a small fork lift and still stayed up-right, just!!

i drive a still 70-30 at work.
the 70-30 refers to the weight distribution as it's a coiunterbalance truck, the whole rear half of it is cast iron .
it's a diesel.
seats are made of vinyll and foam, dash is moulded plastic, tyres are solid rubber not pneumatic. wheels are thick steel with about 10-12 bolts. theres loads of hydraulic hose all over it going to the rams.
fors are steel i think as they flex a bit when you have a load at the end of them.
dunno about the chassis, i should imagine that most of the rear components probably bolt onto the counter weight with probably just a front having a beefy frame to hold whatever your lifting.

I Drive Them, i drive a 2.5tone Hyster Counterbalance!..as someone said back hald solid Castiron, Same with forks, usually other materials as steel are used, the trucks i drive are LPG And Run Off 1.6 Honda Engines
