Recently bought an old lamp however it doesnt work because the original double pole single throw switch was broken.
Have bought a new single pole single throw switch (pictured) and wired it in but the lamp still doesn't work. Is my wiring ok? (excuse the pics!) or shall I get it properly looked at?
I have swapped bulbs etc so it can't be anything daft like that Cheers

Starting to get on my nerves!

and why you got a double pole on it ? is it just a table lamp? or a fixed fitting?

Its a floor standing lamp pictured below. Appears the wiring is correct as I thought (must have been a dodgy connection!) as the lamp works now, however only two of the three lights work, if I screw the 3rd bulb in really tight it comes on but one of the others dims and the other goes out all together?

40 watt bulbs, 13amp fuse, no transformer just the single pole switch. Not sure if thats got something to do with it and I need the double pole switch to run the 3 lamps?

no it just wouldnt come on , cant see why you would need a double pole switch. and a 13a fuse is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too big . you sure you have all of them connected up right? should go from switch (live) and N up to first lamp , then down to 2nd n 3rd and N back up otherside. only way i can think is you hae wired them in series but should still brighen up , are they warm? and there def not a transformer?
why have you had it in bits anyhow ?

Cheers Ben...
In bits because I bought it with the broken switch hence needed to sort it out. What size fuse should I be using then? I think the wiring is correct too so it's a bit weird to say the least! If you take one of the bulbs out then the middle one will work just wont work while the other two are switched on - then starts to blow bulbs!

so is it how it were before? if so cut out switch and put it in a connecter and plug it in .
1amp if you have one , or a 3a
i think you have a loose connection , the outer bit on the lamp is N.
if you have them in all 3 and take the middle one do two go out?

Yeah the wiring from the black bit (bottom of the lamp poles) is as exactly as it was when I got it. I've only touched the wires in the 2nd pic down - two into the new switch and wired the other two (purple/blue) together.
You reckon I should ditch the switch and just use the mains to turn off/on? Will change the fuse tomorrow too.

Just removed the middle bulb and nothing happened, only goes weird if I screw it in really tight - one goes out, and the middle bulb comes out but very dimly. Remove it and both come back on

Cheers Ben - will bear it in mind mate, will need to see about packing it up as it's fairly large. I do have an account with TNT though so if I can get it boxed safely it should be fine appreciate your help, top notch!

that aint wired right
1 wire from each light should be wired straight to Netural
and the other wire from each light shoul be wired to live that goes though the switch
so take one wire off each of the light pairs and connect it them together to neutral (so 1 brown from light 1, 1 black from light 2 and 1 black from light 3)
then take the other wires from each light and connet them together to live though the switch (so 1 brown from light 1, 1 black from light 2 and 1 black from light 3)
the it should work fine and will be safe .. and like ben said it needs a 3 amp fuse
hope it helps

yes but rather than using a connecter just wire them in series (link from one to the other to the other)
