If its purely a toy that doesn't need to be practical then get a valver Corsa.
If you want something more practical, a bit newer and more of an everyday car then MK4 Astra 1.8 SRi or Vectra GSi

basically, ive got about £5000 to spend on the car and the insurance im 19 but have been on my mums insurance since i passed.
here are some quotes:
Veccy Gsi- £2400
Astra mk3 GSi- £2000
Astra Coupe and SRi are both about-£1200
and i hav'nt had a quote for a 2.0l
i like the sounds of a coupe because they are newer and are nice looking, an nice astra mk3 gsi is hard to find but they are fast, only trouble is reliability and age of the car. veccy sounds nice but being a v6 it will guzzle fuel and is also quite steep on insurance.
in other words, to buy a newer car i must comprimise on speed and to buy an older, faster car i will have to look very hard for a good clean example

No...........not seen it!!! Ill have to get that!
I love the Nissan 200 series cars, especially the S14's and S15's...........totally awesome. They have got everything, reliable easily tuned engine, RWD, 2 door coupe shell, fair interior (to say its Jap) etc etc
I just think for the money they are in a league of their own!!!

I personally think that if anyones paying over about £1200 to insure any car (as long as you haven't just passed your test as its hard to get a quote for under £1200) then you have more money than sense!

Certainly are a lot of car for the money... the only thing which stopped me buying an S14 was the fact that I would end up wrapping it round a lamp post...
My GT4 seemed the much safer option after reading your posts on the uncontrollable nature of a tuned SX
