If you threaten your manager that you will quit, they might be able to sort something out. I know my manager is tight for staff anyway and couldnt afford to lose someone else, tell them you can make the time up or say youll just quit.

Yes, Im sure the whole store would go to pot just because one worker isnt there...idiot!

Just pull a sickie, get a sick note from the docs (easy to lie and get) and as obvious as it may be that your faking it they cant do anything because of it.

Oh and Incidentally 30th Dec is over 4 weeks away!!! So I suspect there may be some other reason your manager will not let you take holiday.

Are you a manager of tesco, seems liek this thread has touched a nerve

dont work for tesco no, but am a retail manager, it is very hard trying to manage a team which is on near enough minimum wage budgets are very tight, I chalange anyone to try running a supermarket for a week it aint easy and shit like this is what makes it tough, but on the other hand i would give him the holiday its over 4 weeks away so plenty of time to sort something out.

and as or the point of he is only 1 person he hasnt told you what size store he works in could be an express where there are only ever 4-5 members of staff at a time anyway

They wouldnt, probably best off not loosing the job though, if youve been there a while youve probably built up a tidy salary as I have, if you quit the job you wouldnt be able to get straight into another job the same salary youd be back to square one.

Tesco is a big company, they could call people in from another store if they had to.

This only really happens in the small stores, otherwise people are contracted to certain hours, if they have hours to fill the is usually someone in store to make up for it anyway

Ok, but i don't think when people leave school or college they intend to stack shelves for years and then become a supermarket manager, i think that's all everyone is saying. He could get another job doing the same thing easily if he wanted to quit to go on holiday. No offence to supermarket managers or shelf stackers.

I cannot sell the tickets it is within the terms and conditions of the competition as I have already looked into this.

Plus I want to go as it would be great telling my mrs that were goin away for the new year, she is also off work over Christmas.

I have worked my way up from packer to trainee baker to semi skilled over 1 and a half years and am only a step away from being skilled which could be a fall back trade for life and comes with a tidy salary.

Therefore I am scared that if I just go anyway I will loose my job( im 80% sure that I wouldn’t but is always a risk)

Other option would be trying to blag a sicknote, as then even if they knew I was goin and came back with a tan, theres nothing they could do. Will speak to a member of the union on mon, I pay every month for it so might aswell ask.

Also see if you can find other people to cover the hours you are meant to be working, then go and speak to your boss with this info and he might let you change your scheduled hols....he sounds like a prick though!

You can sign yourself off sick for a week, after then most employers ask for a doctors note, so if the holiday is a week long he has no problems going

If you're friendly with the managers it shouldn't be a problem...

Can you not say your gf is expecting a child and you need some paternity leave?
