Finally got round to getting a new cat fitted to my exhaust today, 2 months and £117.50 later! 
Now not only does my exhaust not sound like a rattly gay Nova, it's bloody loud now, much louder than with the old cat (before it fucked up)! 
Engine seems a bit more responsive too, nothing to write home about mind, but I certainly noticed a difference.
Now I can go cruising and not be embarrased by a rattly smelly exhaust - at last I can drive without unburnt petrol fumes entering the cabin any more!
YAY!
