But the amount they get paid is stupid!

I could do the same as them, but ovbiously not as good, and not get paied a penny, its pathetic!

typical female view.

professional football is a business, not a sport.

Yeah but you could say working in an office is a business making cups into a design or something ..... Just an example But you wouldn't get payed pennies for doing it,

But even other sports enthusiasts such as Cricket or Rugby, even though they entertain etc they don't get payed as much as footballers,

Just wat i think!

what do footballers actually do ?? other that kick a fucking ball around.

steve, football as i said is a business. i dont pay david beckhams wages, you dont pay ronaldo's wages. but we both pay for policemen and fireman wages, and if you want to see them paid more, taxes will rise, and we will all moan.

For all those who said the above was crap...

Its simple economics, anyone who has studied it will have been given this example over and over again. Footballers have a skill others cant learn, yes you can learn to play football, but you cannot learn to be a world class footballer, otherwise we all would be. And because not everyone can do what they do they get paid what they demand, simple economics.

The same goes for other things where people cant learn the skill...other sports, music, acting (to a degree), being a model (not a skill but due to looks which you cant just learn!), even some simple day to day jobs aswell which people have a natural ability for.

It might seem wrong to people, but thats life and it always has been that way. They have a skill thats demanded, its only in limited supply, so people pay a premium.

Of course they are paid too much, as are most people who are at the top of the chosen field (agreed some more than others) but popularity dictates it as does supply and demand.

You can't cap their wages like that.
How would you feel if someone said you were only allowed to earn X amount, just cos they feel thats all your job is worth?!

The lower leagues have salary cap where the club is only allowed to spend a certain percentage of its income on wages.

They are talking about piloting it in the championship but have to bend the rules slightly

I work for myself

I see what you are getting at though. But I still think even £35k is more than plenty thats like 2 year wages. I think so long as you earn enough to live comfortably, than thats fine

^^ in theory yes, in ye olden days they could only earn about 10 shillings a week max

Most of them make alot of money through sponsorship etc so it's bollocks anyway, no-one can really moan as we watch them and pay their wages in one way or another

Yes, some of them get £50k+ a week

Whereas our doctors/Nurses/police officers/scientists trying to cure cancer etc dont even earn that in a year.

Kill them all

If you have Sky TV, buy Nike/Adidas products (or any other products endorsed by these players) then yes you do pay their wages.

IT's capitalism a tell thi.

You might be born with certain factors that mean you could "learn" the skills to be a world class footballer but you arn't just born a world class footballer. If the first experience of football was of it hitting you in the face full pelt you would probably never play again and never go on to play football, and get coached et. Same goes for if you got a shit coach as a young one.

Look at Tiger Woods, had a club in his hand at about 2 years old, Lean Haslam as been on motorbikes since he was 2 no doubt, Willaims Sisters etc. If it wasn't for the top class coaching from an early age they would just be 2 normal ugly american girls.

Yeah, but the point isnt about if/why they became what they are, its that they have a skill others dont to be paid that much. Granted there are probably others out there who have the skill but havent realised it, but that doesnt take away the fact that not everyone can do their job.

The only players that are paid to much at the moment are the Ipswich players.

There should be a cap agreed by all teams.
Something much lower than they are on atm.
10k a week max or soemthing like that.
If they want to go and get another job that pays as well as that then let them.

angers me that i were almost semi-pro but still paying fiver a week to play!

I paid to have the privalige to play because i enjoyed it!

but wen players are on 50k a week etc fucks me right off they do not deserve that kinda money for there job. even if the careers only last approx 15 years.

i wanna be a footballer

What you have also got to remember is that it is only a short career, most players wont play on past 31/32, so they have to make as much as they can during the time they play.

Also, remember its only the top players who earn meag money, im guessing apart from Chelski, Man Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal players most players will be on a much lesser wage, not to mention the players in the lower leagues. Take Huddersfield for example, the highest paid player is on around 6k per week, now i know that sounds a lot but if he only plays till he is 30, then he has another 50 odd years to live of that money so in reallity it isnt that much
