why did thy decide to call anything what it is? Why did fingers not get called glove holders or shoes called feet protecters?

People have trouble accepting the fact that some random guy, whoever found it just named something because he felt like it. There doesn't have to be an explanation why milk is called milk or grass is called grass.... whoever fancied naming it just did.
